Installation Guide
Install Eviquire on Windows, Ubuntu, or a supported macOS beta build; configure portable packages, activation, and updates.
3.1 Downloading The Installer
Download Eviquire only from the approved vendor portal (www.eviquire.com). Verify that the installer version matches your deployment instructions. Before installation:
- Confirm the operating system is supported.
- Confirm sufficient disk space.
- Confirm required permissions.
- Confirm any antivirus, endpoint protection, or application control policies permit installation.
Investigator Tip: Record the installer version and installation date in your lab or workstation documentation. Software version information may be relevant when explaining how evidence was acquired.
3.2 Installing On Windows
To install Eviquire on Windows:
- Obtain the appropriate Windows installer or portable application distribution from the official Eviquire download channel. If using a portable edition, place the supplied program files on the approved local or removable storage location and start the designated executable. For an installer-based edition, continue with the installation steps below.
- Download the install software from www.eviquire.com.
- For an installer-based edition, run the Eviquire Windows installer and follow the installation wizard.
- Accept license terms when prompted and choose the installation directory where applicable.
- Complete installation and launch Eviquire (or launch the portable executable for a portable distribution).
- Sign in using the credentials registered in the Eviquire portal (www.eviquire.com).
If network capture is required, confirm that Wireshark/TShark and packet capture support are installed and accessible. Eviquire can detect whether network capture support is available and may disable network capture options if the required tool is not present.
3.2.1 Windows Portable ZIP (Version 6)
Version 6 is available as a Windows portable ZIP in addition to installation-based distribution. The archive includes required application runtimes, including app-local Visual C++ libraries. Portable application execution is useful on investigation workstations where installing the application is restricted.
- Download the approved Windows portable distribution from Eviquire and extract it to a writable location, such as an approved local folder or USB drive.
- Launch Eviquire using the executable provided in the extracted package. Sign in or activate according to your license.
- Select the evidence storage destination and confirm sufficient available space before creating a case.
- If packet capture is required, separately ensure that the host has compatible packet capture components and privileges; bundling the Eviquire runtime does not install TShark or grant dumpcap permissions.
Portable-operation precaution: An application can run from removable media, but forensic acquisition requires reliable, writable evidence storage. Avoid unplugging removable drives while collecting, recording, finalizing, or verifying evidence.
3.3 Installing On Linux
To install Eviquire on Linux where a Linux build is provided:
- Confirm the distribution and version are supported by your release.
- Ensure required runtime dependencies are installed.
- Make the installer executable if needed.
- Run the installer using the method documented for your deployment.
- Confirm the application can write to the configured data directory.
- Confirm browser, multimedia, and network capture dependencies are present.
Network capture on Linux may require additional permissions. If TShark cannot capture packets, configure capture capabilities according to your organization’s security policy.
3.3.1 Ubuntu AppImage (Version 6)
The Ubuntu AppImage provides a portable Linux distribution containing its required application runtime, including FFmpeg media tools and Firebird. Use it on a compatible Linux environment with X11 or XWayland support. Packet capture still relies on host-installed TShark and properly configured dumpcap permissions.
- Obtain the official AppImage; save it in an approved writable directory.
- Grant execute permission when required, then launch the AppImage.
- Complete user sign-in, check multimedia features, and test the intended evidence capture and export workflow.
Platform note: macOS remains a beta platform. Always test video, application-audio capture, screen permissions, and file access on the specific OS release used for an investigation.
3.4 macOS Beta Availability
A macOS beta was introduced with the August 2026 release. These instructions apply when your organization has received a compatible macOS beta build. For a supported macOS build:
- Open the signed installer or application package.
- Follow macOS security prompts.
- Grant required permissions such as file access, screen recording, or network capture only as instructed.
- Launch Eviquire.
- Complete activation.
Caution: macOS privacy controls may block screen recording, browser automation, or file access until permissions are granted. Validate all capture features before operational use.
3.5 First Launch
On first launch, Eviquire initializes user configuration, data folders, interface settings, and licensing status. Depending on edition, the application may display a welcome screen, license prompt, update prompt, or guided setup flow. Confirm the following:
- Your investigator name and user profile are correct.
- The data folder is appropriate for evidence storage.
- The application version is correct.
- Network capture tools are detected if needed.
- Proxy/Tor settings are disabled unless required.
- Report branding settings are correct if your organization uses custom reports.
3.6 Licensing And Activation
Eviquire editions may enable different feature sets. Community or limited editions may restrict certain acquisition modes or advanced features. Professional or enterprise editions may enable online reports, blockchain anchoring, WHOIS, automation, or advanced collection options. To activate:
- Open the licensing or activation section.
- Enter the license key or sign in using your organization-approved method.
- Confirm the activated edition.
- Restart Eviquire if prompted.
If your organization uses centralized deployment, license information may be preconfigured.
3.7 Updating Software
Eviquire may include a maintenance or update tool. To check for updates:
- Open the update function from the application or maintenance tool.
- Check for available versions.
- Review release notes and compatibility guidance.
- Install the update.
- Restart Eviquire.
- Run a test acquisition before operational use.
Warning: Avoid updating Eviquire in the middle of an active acquisition. Document any software version changes between acquisitions. If version changes occur between acquisitions, note the version change in the case documentation.
